Oh man, it has been forever since I posted something! Here’s an extra special newborn boy photography session, for a family that has waited for this precious baby for a really long time. One thing surrogacy has taught me, is that the harder the road, the more you appreciate all the wonderful moments. I think sometimes we don’t realize just how quickly our newborn babies will grow. These parents absolutely had a sense of that.
For our session we planned on using a fair number of digital backdrops. Using these allows me to create elaborate artwork, while keeping session time to 2-3 hours instead of probably 4. Mom really loved jewel tones and had amazing ideas during the session. The colours included navy blue, sage green, forest green and greys. We used a few flower drops, but they were very much still “boy” images. Mom wanted mostly moodier images, with one white photo, which you’ll see in the gallery.
We captured a few parent photos (you know baby will really love seeing these as he grows!). We used both a high key (photographer speak for bright white background) style and a relaxed style to give variety for these shots.
For baby’s alone shots, mom brought some special momentos from her late father (I love, love, loved the “I love you more box”) and from Dad’s home country. I really do appreciate when parents bring special items with them.
I also made sure to take lots of detail shots of all those precious things that you want to remember: little toes, sweet eyelashes, that button nose, etc.
I’ve added a few of my most favorite photos from this special session in the gallery below:
