I have recently started to offer at home newborn photos for my clients. Since I’m having to bring my props with me, I’ve been using a lot of digital backgrounds to keep setups to a minimum. These backgrounds are simply stunning and offer so much variety. I’m completely in love.
The benefit to mom and dad for at home sessions is obviously not needing to come into the studio when baby is so little (I try to get baby in around 7 days usually). The only real restriction is that I need a large window for light. Patio doors work perfectly for this. I usually bring a small light with me just in case its needed, but its nice if we can use natural light instead.
When I went to do newborn photos for this baby girl, she was a little tricky to pose. She was very big (11 + lbs!), and all that amazing chub made her a little less bendy than some other babies I’ve worked with. Nevertheless, we were able to get a beautiful gallery filled with lots of neutral greys and blues.
As baby slept, I was also able to get lots of detail shots. These close ups, or macro photos, as they’re called in the photography world are the perfect way to capture the little things that you want to remember about your little one. From eye lashes to, to little button noses, perfect pouty lips and teenie tiny toes. I love making collages of these photos. They are perfect for hanging as framed prints on the wall. They also make a wonderful addition to baby albums.
See below for this baby’s detail shots and a few of my favourites from her newborn gallery.
If you’re interested in booking newborn photos, you can find all the information here. Sessions usually are booked a month or two before your due date, but I do occasionally have last minute availability so be sure to inquire.
