These are among my favorite newborn girl photos to date. Mom wanted something that was a bit like Anne Geddes photographs with the black background and dramatic lighting, while still keeping everything girly.
The session was an essential session, with 12 photos in the gallery. I had a couple of prop set ups and also took a few parent images to show off just how tiny their baby girl was. She’s not going to fit in their arms like this for long.
Even though there wasn’t a lot of photographs to take with an essential session, this was still the longest session I have ever had. We were there over 4 hours. Babies are unpredictable and in this case, this sweet little girl decided that picture day was a great day to cluster feed. When you are a newborn photographer, you need to be flexible. Baby is always the boss, so we patiently waited for those few moments in between feeds when she would sleep.
I always advise that mom and dad bring something to do and snacks, just in case our session does go long. There is always the option of rescheduling to another day as well, but most of the time I find parents prefer to push through and get it over with in one day.
Of course, all that waiting paid off and I was able to deliver a stunning gallery to Mom and Dad. I know they’ll treasure these photos for decades to come.
Here are my favorite images from the gallery. The bowl ones are just gorgeous!
