I love, love, love artistic newborn photos. Creating new props and outfits is one of my favorite things to do. After a design consultation with my client, I spend a bunch of time designing, sewing and hot gluing to make sure each newborn session is stunning.
When designing an artistic newborn photography set, I typically try to incorporate three colours; two neutrals and one accent.
I like to incorporate at least one prop in each session. If the client is more open minded, I’ll use a bolder prop, like the little boat in the photo above. I also adore that little white bed and side table. Both make me think of the baby sailing off to dreamland. Other common props include:
Having a variety of textures helps images to look more organic and natural. I use a variety of textures including: lace, wool, wood, fur, rag rugs and fluffy blankets. Try combining at least two textures in each image for a stunning look.
Reviewing each of these components helps me ensure that each baby has a unique photography set, while ensuring my clients that they will receive the high quality artwork that I promise to deliver.
