It was late on a Friday evening when I received a message from my birth photography client asking if I had any plans that evening. I knew right away that her birthing time had arrived. It wasn’t much longer and I was called to meet them at the Lucina Centre. Upon arriving I almost entered the wrong suite. The other birth suite was clearly occupied by a labouring woman, and their suite was completely quiet. Fortunately, the midwife appeared at the doorway and redirected me.
The room was dimly lit and I could hear the familiar hypnobabies birth playlist playing once I entered the room. Daddy was referring to the birth material provided in the Hypnobabies program, while Mama laboured in the bathroom in the dark. Everything was quiet and calm and I was surprised to find that she was already 7-8 cms. As the clock ticked by, Mama moved from the bathroom to the tub where she was so relaxed you’d never know she was in labour. It was clear that she trusted her body, knowing that she could bring her baby into the world without intervention. Daddy provided an impressive support system through the entire labour and delivery. He was there, every moment to help remind Mama to breath and remain in a state of self hypnosis. As she moved into transition, Mama moved out of the tub and utilized gravity to bring the baby down. Feeling the urge to push, she moved into a comfortable position, supported by Daddy and allowed baby to make her way into the world.
Being invited into this intimate time, was a pure blessing. They will always have this gallery of images to look back on to remember the night their daughter was born, the power of surrender and the love between them.
