Maternity Photography Sessions

Pregnancy is an important passageway on your journey to parenthood. For many women, it is a time when you feel sensual. Even if you don’t, to the outside world, you are glowing.

When you book a session with me, I will work with you to capture artistic images that are 100% you. We’ll review your style, location and gown preferences (I have over 20 gowns for you to borrow!). I will guide you with posing that will flatter your curves and show your connection with your partner and baby.

After your session, you’ll be able to review your professionally edited proof gallery and choose your favorites. Your session includes 10 digital files to share on social media and print on your own. You can also purchase professional prints, canvases and albums.

Sessions are generally booked in the second trimester of pregnancy, but last minute bookings are also welcome. To get started with the booking process, fill in the form below.

Maternity Photography Details

When should I book?

I generally book about one to two months in advance. This means contacting me in your late first or early second trimester. Book both your newborn session and maternity session for the best value. I do sometimes have last minute availability, so if you are past this point, you should still contact me to set up a session.

How do I receive my photos?

Your watermarked proof gallery will be sent to you via email within 2-3 weeks of the session. You will then have 7 days to select your favorite images. The base session price includes 10 images. You can also choose 20 images or the full gallery, which contains 30-40 images depending on session type.

You may also purchase albums, wall art and professional prints.

How far along should I be?

This really depends upon how you are feeling. We want your session to take place when you are visibly pregnant, but before you begin to lose too much mobility. For most women, this is between 30 and 34 weeks. If you are carrying multiples, or have a history of being uncomfortable during pregnancy, we will book earlier. Some women feel amazing right up until the end and I have done sessions as late as 39 weeks.

Where do maternity photography sessions take place?

If you like studio photography, the sessions will take place in a studio in West Edmonton. The studio has plenty of options for furniture, including a bed with white linens and a variety of couches and chairs. In studio we can accomplish everything from bright, back-lit images, to dramatic dark images with light showcasing just your belly.

Outdoor sessions can be taken year round, weather permitting. I have a number of locations I like to shoot in, but I’m open to suggestions as well. We will discuss your perfect location prior to the session.

Do you supply maternity photography gowns?

I have over 20 maternity gowns, wraps and robe options available, as well as a few floral crowns on hand. Most of my pieces are in classic colours and are styled to bring out the femininity of the pregnant body, without being over the top. I have items to fit most sizes from petite through to plus size.

If there is something in particular you have in mind, I will do my best to supply it or something similar. Booking as far in advance as possible allows time for custom gowns to be ordered.

Do you provide hair and makeup before the session?

Having your hair and makeup professionally done will go a long way towards helping you feel your absolute best for the session. This can be added on to your session experience. You can show up in your sweats and let us do the rest. Talk about an easy, relaxing way to prep for the shoot.

Edmonton maternity gownHow will you help me look my best?

As a maternity photography specialist, I am great with giving posing directions while making sure you remain comfortable during the session. I’ve also been pregnant four times (three of my own, plus one surrogate baby), so I am very familiar with the challenges that come with growing a little person.

If you have anything you are self conscious about, please speak up. You’ll get no judgement from me and I can make sure that we are minimizing these things with posing, angles and even photoshop if necessary. I promise you’re perfect the way you are, but again, I want you to love your photographs, so I am here to help with these insecurities.

Do you take boudoir / nude portraits?

Absolutely. The female body is so incredible, that I love to celebrate it in this way. The “nude” photos that I take aren’t entirely nude, I do request you wear underwear for sanitary purposes. If you want to appear naked, I am happy to remove them while editing.

If you prefer to take these portraits outside, we can discuss a private location to accommodate us. Otherwise, the studio is the perfect setting for this.

Who can attend sessions?

Your pregnancy is a special time for the whole family. I love incorporating Dads and older siblings into maternity photos. I have also had grandparents join us in the studio so they can be included in the photographs. Please let me know ahead of time who to expect so I can be prepared.

How do I book and get full pricing details?

Fill in the form below to get started. I will send you a contract via email, which you can sign electronically. Your session fee is required to book your session. This can be paid using credit card, PayPal or email money transfer. Your images will be paid for separately after you’ve selected the ones you want. Pricing and dates are guaranteed for 14 days from the time of first contact. All prices subject to change.
